Whilst eating in a Chinese restaurant it is a good idea to sample some of their delicious dessert options. After a main course Chinese people will often enjoy seasonal fruits. A number of desserts and pastries are referred to as tian dian and gao dian. The term dim sum originally meant a small food portion. However, modern Chinese restaurants in the West may use it to describe a sweet treat.

Throughout the year the Chinese celebrate a range of holidays and traditional festivals. These events are often covered by websites such as the Guardian so that both Western and Chinese readers can be made aware of them.

Many popular holidays are celebrated by serving dim sum and tea. During the Mid-Autumn Festival an iconic baked treat called a moon cake is eaten. If so it is called su. Tang is the name for several difference Chinese candies. They may be made from honey, cane sugar or fruit.
